We’re Hiring a Part-Time Engagement Coordinator!


hiring_graphicThe Engagement Coordinator is a PAID POSITION primarily responsible for assisting the Media Democracy Project (MDP) in a ‘crowdsourcing’ consultation and survey process which will gather input on the content and delivery of its programs, including  the annual Media Democracy Days (MDD) conference in November 2014.  The goal is to integrate the interests and priorities of the broader community into MDP programming, through engagement with groups such as: non-government organizations, social justice groups, past partners, previous sponsors and attendees, the academic community, the public and independent media-makers and supporters.

Start: ASAP

Time Commitment: 12 hrs/wk for 12 weeks

Compensation: $19/hr

Responsibilities – Deliverables

  • Organize and deliver community and partner group consultations on MDP & MDD activities and topics for the next two years. Including:
  1. round table discussions with activist and partner organizations
  2. launch and analyze online survey
  3. report on the consultation results
  • Establish partnerships to co-sponsor the master class (hands-on media-making and skills-based) workshops.
  • Assist in delivering two master class workshops.
  • Create regional, provincial, and national contacts and expand MDP scope.
  • Conduct fundraising and advancement activities for expanded program and research activities.


  • General knowledge of media education, advocacy, and production groups in metro Vancouver.
  • General knowledge of social justice and activist community in greater Vancouver.
  • High proficiency in English writing
  • High attention to detail and organization is a must
  • Regular access to a wireless enabled laptop

The Following Will Be Considered Assets

  • Familiarity with the work of the Media Democracy Project ( )
  • Research and/or work experience in the not-for-profit sector (including Universities)
  • Experience with public consultations, event coordination, promotion, and logistics
  • Experience in public speaking and communication strategies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or understanding of media reform efforts in North America
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office and Google Docs
  • Experience with Adobe CS (especially Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Graphic design experience
  • Experience with WordPress (or other content management systems)
  • Avid user of social media tools like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Flickr
  • Flexible schedule

Location & Time Commitment

SFU Burnaby campus office (K9650). 12 hours per week for 12 weeks from hiring date.


$19 per hour.
