‘Blood in the Mobile’ Film Screening & Talk
Thursday, March 06 2014
The mobile phone we have come to depend upon is the most swiftly-diffusing media technology in human history. Its production, however, depends on some of the most exploitative and brutal labour conditions on the planet. This event featured a screening of ‘Blood in the Mobile’, a 2010 documentary directed by the Danish director Frank Piasecki Poulsen, and a special talk from Hamish Stewart, UBC Law, an expert in upstream compliance approaches adopted in response to the United States’ SEC Conflict Minerals Rule (Dodd Frank Section 1502).
The event was completely sold out, with over 200 people attending. We thank everyone for making this event a huge success!
Organized as a part of the CounterCulture Speaker Series run by the Media Democracy Project, School of Communication and the SFU Institute for the Humanities.
